Introducing Omakase Sushi To Go

In a city where no-name sushi has become a grocery store staple, Union Market is about to offer rolls and nigiri as convenient as anything you’ll find at your local deli – but with a level of quality and choice you’d expect from a fine Japanese restaurant.

Starting Friday, March 12th, Union Market will carry Omakase Sushi to go, handcrafted and packaged by Park Slope’s Kappa Sake House. Kappa’s master chef Nishikawa created the product line exclusively for Union Market. It includes 18 different varieties of Edomae- and Osaka-style sushi. To ensure freshness, Union Market will pick up freshly made sushi from Kappa twice daily and deliver directly to the three Brooklyn locations.

Edomae-style sushi has its origins in Tokyo (Edo is the old name of the Japanese capital). This version features fresh fish hand shaped atop seasoned rice. Osaka-style sushi, also called Hako sushi, uses box shaped seasoned rice with sashimi on top.

Kappa’s sushi line for Union Market ranges from popular items such as the California Roll to new creations like the Spicy Shrimp and Basil Roll, which comes filled with cooked sushi shrimp, fresh basil, caviar and spicy mayonnaise. Assortments of authentic nigiri sushi are also available.
